John Gossel serves as the Emergency Management Advisor to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the United States Department of Energy (DOE). In this position, he is responsible for carrying out a wide range of coordination, facilitation, and problem-solving activities to ensure that the Department is ready to maintain continuity of operations while responding to an incident. He serves as the organization’s lead for Emergency Management by coordinating with the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Continuity Program Office and Emergency Management Enterprise. In this capacity, Mr. Gossel advises leadership and directs CIO’s Continuity of Operations (COOP), Continuity of Government (COG), and Contingency Communications programs. He is a member of the Emergency Management Working Group, supporting the coordination and synchronization of efforts for all-hazards incident response and planning. In addition, he develops and implements the CIO's customer advocacy strategy and initiatives across the DOE enterprise.
Before returning to government service, Mr. Gossel served as the Director of Security and Operations for Honeywell International. In this position, he oversaw finance, security, health, and safety for the department, served as a member of the counterintelligence and insider threat program, and ran the day-to-day operations for the Fortune 100 company's Washington, DC facility.
Prior to joining Honeywell, Mr. Gossel served on the White House staff of both the President and Vice President. As Deputy Director and IT Advisor, White House Management, he was responsible for the financial, operational, and administrative needs of the Executive Office of the President. As Senior Information Technology Specialist, he managed the information technology strategy and infrastructure planning for the Office of the Vice President.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Gossel served on the Washington staff of three U.S. Representatives, providing both legislative and operational support, including overseeing information technology.
Mr. Gossel has a Bachelor of Science in Business Studies from the State University of New York College at Buffalo.
