The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide funding to the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) to design, fabricate and test a novel mega-hertz switched photovoltaic (PV) microinverter. The microinverter would integrate two-stage power conversion, which would enable maximum power point tracking (MPPT) efficiency and eliminate the need for electrolytic capacitors. Three hardware prototypes would be fabricated and tested as part of this award.
