The City of Boston proposes to use federal funding to replace existing street corner trash receptacles with new solar powered compacting receptacles. This change will increase the amount of garbage held in the bins before scheduled pickups and reduce the number of trips to empty them by 5 fold. Bill Belly Solar Compactors are already in existence around the city. This upscale of the scale of the project will prove that the bins are a cost effective and energy saving method.
