Tribal Energy Program. The Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California (Washoe Tribe) proposes to install four small (approximately 1.0-1.5 kilowatt) vertical wind turbines at designated locations on Tribal lands to offset energy costs for the Tribe. Due to concerns about noise and wildlife, all four wind turbines will be vertical-axis turbines and these will be installed on public buildings approved by each Tribal community. The Washoe Tribe will analyze data collected from the wind turbines to better understand the wind resources. Site assessments of the four locations have been completed, and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service was consulted regarding the proposed project activities. The proposed project sites are not considered sensitive or critical habitats and land clearing would be restricted to the 6 x 6 foot pad for the turbines outside of the avian breeding season or through clearance from a biologist/environmental specialist.
