Savannah River Site (SRS) has a large inventory of tritiated heavy water (HW) formerly used in the operation of the site production reactors. Since the SRS reactors are no longer operating, this heavy water is no longer needed. The heavy water is stored in K, L and C areas. To reduce the risk to employees and the environment from an accidental release, and to prepare for the ultimate deactivation of facilities, this heavy water will need to be prepared for disposal/disposition offsite.
