PowerAmerica Releases Annual Report and Issues Call for Projects

PowerAmerica released an annual report that detailed successes in its second full year of operation. The report includes write-ups of almost 40 member projects in the areas of foundry and device development, module development and manufacturing, commercialization applications and education and workforce development.

PowerAmerica is also seeking projects to accelerate the adoption of SiC and GaN power electronics technologies. The concept paper submission is due on Friday, November 10. The full submission deadline is Friday, December 22, 2017.

DOE’s Better Plants Partners Connect to Drive Energy Efficiency at World Energy Engineering Congress

Last month, staff from DOE’s Better Plants program convened with partners in Atlanta, Georgia, for the World Energy Engineering Congress (WEEC), the largest energy conference and technology expo in the United States.

SkyNano Technologies: Breaking Through Nanotube Manufacturing Barriers with New Innovations

SkyNano Technologies, one of three start-ups in Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s (ORNL) new Innovation Crossroads program, was honored with the “Crowd Favorite” award at a pitch competition held at the fifth annual “Startup Day” at the Bijou Theatre in Downtown Knoxville.

Taking Aluminum Alloys to New Heights

According to Orlando Rios, a researcher at ORNL, cerium is overproduced, inexpensive, and finding new uses for it supports domestic rare-earth mining operations and provides innovative resource materials to U.S. manufacturers. The Critical Materials Institute (CMI) was looking for useful applications for cerium.
