The K1 exhaust system provides confinement ventilation and removal of hydrogen gas for the less-contaminated portions of the Waste Encapsulation and Storage Facility, and the K3 exhaust system provides confinement ventilation and removal of hydrogen gas for the more contaminated portions. Each system currently consists of two fans (operated in parallel) which draw air from the identified portion of the building through ducting into a high efficiency particulate air filter(s), and then exhaust through a combined exhaust stack. The new systems would be above ground skid mounted units.
