Design Services organization of the Savannah River Nuclear Solutions has evaluated the 293-F stack withstanding Performance Category 3 Natural Phenomena Hazards loads and concluded that the stack in present configuration poses a risk of collapsing and possibly falling on to the roof of 253-F facility. Therefore, a recommendation was made to reduce the stack height from 74.4 feet to 25 to 30 feet, and fill it with the generated debris so that with this extra weight the height reduced stack can be qualified for the analyzed loads.
