This National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) determination applies to a subaward selected by the Nevada Institute for Renewable Energy Commercialization (NIREC) to receive federal funds. NIREC is proposing to provide federal funds to K2 Energy Solutions to develop a prototype for a stationary energy storage system for use with residential, commercial, and light industrial applications. This project will involve two phases. Phase 1 will focus on the design and testing of the systems components. Phase 2 will focus the prototype manufacturing. The new storage system will be designed and manufactured at the K2 Energy Solutions facility. K2 Energy Solutions is currently in the battery/energy storage business and develops and manufactures rechargeable lithium-ion batteries for electric drive vehicles.
