November 15, 2013Northwestern University (Northwestern) was originally selected for an Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy award to execute high-risk enzyme design and engineering work to develop a new enzyme capable of methane oxidation. Northwestern now proposes, in conjunction with California Institute of Technology (Caltech), to conduct laboratory-based, bench-scale research and development activities that build upon the original work by testing biocatalysts for methane oxidation. Project work will also take place in dedicated office space provided by Protabit LLC, which will provide computational analysis and modeling to predict results from enzyme combinations.
