DOE is proposing to provide federal funding to Virent for a laboratory scale research and development project intended to develop an integrated process to convert lignocellulosic feedstock into hydrocarbons. Work will be completed at three existing facilities. The scope of work includes computer modeling, fundamental research and development, process development, techno-economic analysis and project management. No genetically modified organisms will be used or created as part of this project.
