July 24, 2017The University of New Mexico proposes to develop a tightly coupled experiment and modeling approach to determine potential changes of Critical Heat Flux (CHF) on the reactor performance and safety characteristics of key accident tolerant fuel cladding candidates (Fig1). The experiments will consist of pool and flow (low- and high-pressure) boiling, which will be used to determine out-of-pile impacts on steady state and transient CHF. The approach will employ both experiments and modeling and simulation at the component-scale.
