The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide funding to Florida State University (FSU) for the design, development, and fabrication of superconducting cables for next generation electric machines. Proposed activities would also include the evaluation of various aspects of and obstacles associated with “Conductor on Round Core” cabling and Second-Generation High Temperature Superconductor (2G HTS) conductors.

At FSU in Tallahassee, Florida and at Advanced Conductor Technologies (ACT) in Boulder, Colorado the project would involve the use and handling of cryogenic fluids to allow measurements at cryogenic temperatures. Existing FSU and ACT health and safety policies and procedures would be followed including employee training, proper protective equipment, engineering controls, monitoring, and internal assessments.
