September 9, 2002As agencies strive to meet the President's goal of significantly increasing electronic government, the potential for disruption or damage to critical systems by malicious users continues to increase. In response to increasing threats to the Government's computer networks and systems, Congress enacted the Government hformation Security Reform Act (GISRA) in October 2000. GISRA focuses on program management, implementation, and evaluation of the security of unclassified and national security information. It requires agencies to conduct annual reviews and evaluations of unclassified and classified computer security programs.
