On March 17, 2016 the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) issued a notice of proposed rulemaking (NOPR) proposing energy conservation standards for General Service Lamps. Subsequent to the NOPR DOE held a public meeting and accepted written comments regarding the NOPR. In response to some of those comments, DOE conducted additional research and is publishing this procedural rulemaking to:
- Propose a revised definition of GSL;
- Announce the availability of National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) data and supplemental data collected by DOE;
- Request public comment on proposed definitions and compiled data; and
- Request any additional data that stakeholders may have in support of this evaluation.
The proposed action is a procedural rulemaking and does not modify the existing Energy Conservation Standards.
