This plant modification is to replace existing direct-buried service piping with new, below-grade, trench-contained pipelines or new, aboveground piping systems. These upgrades will lower the risk of environmental and personnel contamination, lower Tank Farm maintenance costs, and provide the reliability necessary to support waste removal activities for the In-Tank Precipitation (ITP) and Extended Sludge Processing (ESP) facilities. These facilities feed high-level radioactive waste to the Defense Waste Processing Facility (DWPF) and Saltstone Facility for final processing prior to placement in a long-term repository.
