The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide federal funding to the City of Bellevue, WA to advance the local practice of inventorying the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with particular sources and activities within community boundaries. Findings would equip cities to understand and document the drivers of change to the inventory, whether from external factors or from changes to the efficiency of the activities within the city. It would also inform the creation of a “replication toolkit” which would clearly describe the steps in the process, and provide guidance on interpretation and visual and narrative templates for other communities to adopt and take forward.

Activities associated with the proposed project would include computer modeling, data analysis, literature review, and conference calls between team members. The proposed project would use no physical materials beyond basic office supplies and software.
