The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide federal funding to SRI International to demonstrate an innovative technology that combines low-cost production of polysilicon with recycling of Silicone fines for the production of solar-grade Silicon.
Proposed activities would include development of lab processes, techno-economic analysis, development of manufacturing systems, commercialization and project management activities including scheduling and conducting meetings, carrying out online research, and completing any calculations/computational work related to the proposed project. Solar Power & Light would assist with project management activities from their offices in Miamisburg, OH. SRI International would complete all in-lab research work and additional project management activities from their research facilities in Menlo Park, CA. The facility in which lab work would occur is purpose-built for the type of activities being proposed; therefore, no change in the use, mission or operation of existing facilities would arise out of this effort. The facility has all applicable permits in place, and would not need additional permits for the proposed activities.
