TRU Pad 16 was contaminated in 2010 when a drum being stored (Row 15) leaked approximately 5 to 10 gallons of water containing Pu-238. An interim action, in accordance with TRU Waste Pad 16 Interim Measures Plan, is being implemented to mitigate current worker exposure and to prevent contaminant migration. The interim actions include filling the TRU Pad 16 sump with grout, installing an interim cover/construction barrier to protect the fixative and protective coating applied over the contaminated surfaces, removing the RUBB (fabric covered steel frame) structure, and installing a reinforced concrete cover over the existing concrete slab.
