The Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide funding to U.S. Forest Service, Region 6 in support of the proposed “U.S. Forest Service Pacific Northwest Region Photovoltaic Systems” project. U.S. Forest Service, Region 6 is proposing to install roof, ground, or carport-mounted solar arrays, ranging from 10–500 kilowatts, at 11 off-grid and remote Forest Service facilities across Oregon and Washington. This project was selected by DOE under the Assisting Federal Facilities with Energy Conservation Technologies (AFFECT) Funding Opportunity Announcement (DE-FOA-0001297).

The proposed project has not been defined to the extent that the DOE can complete a final NEPA determination at this time. This conditional NEPA determination applies solely to preliminary and planning activities as outlined in Task 1 of the Statement of Project Objectives (SOPO). Completion of this task is required in order to define the project to a degree that the DOE can complete a final NEPA determination.
