The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide federal funding to the Igiugig Village Council (IVC) to implement, test and validate system improvements which have been identified through IVC and Ocean Renewable Power Company’s (ORPC) prior experience of constructing, installing, operating and maintaining the RivGen® Power System in the Kvichak River at Igiugig, Alaska.
The proposed IVC project is one of three proposed projects that have been selected under the Funding Opportunity Announcement DE-FOA-0001310. Each of the three proposed projects would consist of three budget periods (BP). At this time, DOE is proposing to fund only BP 1 activities including initial intellectual research, design and modeling for each of the three projects. At the end of BP 1 there would be a down-select process from which two of the three original projects would be chosen to move forward. BP 2 and BP 3 activities would only be reviewed for those two recipients chosen to move forward. This NEPA determination applies exclusively to BP1 activities undertaken by the Igiugig Village Council.
