DOE is proposing to issue a Funding Opportunity Announcement (DE-FOA-0001532) though which the Building Technologies Office would provide financial assistance to applicants to develop and test a methodology for identifying the commercial building energy code requirements that will maximize cost savings through increased compliance. Quantifying savings is expected to create the foundations of a business case for private investors, particularly utilities, to fund programs aimed at increasing building energy code compliance.
Through the FOA, DOE proposes to fund projects that would include data collection and analysis, computer modeling, stakeholder interviews, education, training and outreach. The projects funded through this FOA would be limited exclusively to intellectual, academic, or analytical activities and would use no physical materials beyond basic office supplies and software.
