The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide federal funding to the North American Board of Certified Energy Professionals (NABCEP) to develop several new personnel certifications for the solar industry through a process that builds upon, and ensures close alignment with, the widely recognized NABCEP PV Installation Professional (PVIP) Certification.
As part of the proposed project, three new professional certification programs would be created to acknowledge those who have a specialization in either the design, installation, or maintenance of PV systems. The new programs in design, installation, and maintenance would have eligibility criteria and examinations that are focused on tasks and skills defined in one or more domains of the overall PVIP job task analysis (JTA). Proposed activities would be accomplished by convening subject matter experts to delineate tasks performed by each profession (Technical Committee) and developing examinations to test candidates’ knowledge and proficiency at completing the job (Examination Committee).Project participants would use no physical materials beyond basic office supplies and software.
