November 17:  Live Webinar on the Mid-Atlantic Baseline Study

The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled “Mid-Atlantic Baseline Study" on Tuesday, November 17, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The webinar will provide a brief overview of the methods used in the Mid-Atlantic Baseline Studies (MABS), a project intended to help inform the siting and permitting of offshore wind facilities, and will also present some of the key findings, including the geographic and temporal patterns of wildlife distribution and abundance. The Mid-Atlantic Baseline Studies (MABS) Project was carried out by the Biodiversity Research Institute (BRI) and funded by the U.S. Department of Energy Wind and Water Power Technologies Office and other partners. The goal of these studies is to provide comprehensive baseline ecological data and associated predictive models and maps to regulators, developers, and other stakeholders for offshore wind energy. The data in this report will help inform the siting and permitting of offshore wind facilities on the mid-Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf.

November 18:  Live Webinar on EPA’s Clean Power Plan

The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled “EPA Clean Power Plan: What Tribes Need to Know" on Wednesday, November 18, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. This webinar concludes the Tribal Renewable Energy Webinar series and will provide attendees further insight into the plan’s relevance to tribal communities. In addition attendees will learn how tribes can and should participate in the 90-day public comment process that kicked off with the publication of EPA’s final rule for the Clean Power Plan. Speakers Sara Drescher from Forest Country Potawatomi Community (WI), Jana Ganion from Blue Lake Rancheria (CA), and Laura McKelvey from EPA.

Speakers Nichole Fitzgerald of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Bioenergy Technologies Office, Kate Lewis of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and Dennis Hall of Ohio State University Bioproducts Innovation, discuss how the federal government is promoting sustainability through bioproducts research, commercialization, and market development.
