A private foundation affiliated with the local equestrian community has proposed the establishment of horse riding trails on approximately 1,500 acres located north of U.S. Highway 278 and west of Upper Three Runs Creek and Phelps Road. Foundation members will be required to coordinate with the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory (SREL) regarding potential environmental impacts identified in the attached document, Horse Trail Potential Environmental Issues and Solutions. USFS, SREL, and other Savannah River Site contractors may identify other potential environmental impacts in the future that will require resolution with the foundation. A site walkdown conducted on March 4, 2015 confirmed that streams and wetlands considered jurisdictional under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act do not exist on the subject site.
