The DOE Office of Small Business & Disadvantaged Business Utilization announced that DOE, including NNSA, has earned an “A” grade from the U.S. Small Business Administration for our FY2023 Small Business achievements.


Past Events

DC Metro Engagement Dinner and VetFedAcademy
On April 9, 2025, Gary Lyttek, NNSA Senior Business Source Manager, participated in the DC Metro Engagement Dinner and VetFedAcademy, hosted by the National Veteran Small Business Coalition (NVSBC), at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, VA. Gary was scheduled as a guest speaker at the dinner, and he ended up saving the day by filling in as the main trainer for the VetFedAcademy. Gary discussed doing business with DOE and NNSA, explored the opportunities available for veteran-owned small business, and answered questions.

SBA Partnership Market Research Day
On January 24, 2025, the NNSA Office of Partnership and Acquisition Services conducted an SBA Partnership Market Research Day hosted by the Small Business Administration (SBA). The first-of-its-kind event was planned and coordinated by NNSA's Leon Archuleta and SBA Business Opportunity Specialist Joshua Baca to have Tribally Owned 8(a) firms provide capability presentations. Chelsea Murphy, NNSA Small Business Program Manager, assisted with providing expertise to the Small Business participants, along with SBA Procurement Center Representative Kala Naranjo. Margeau Valteau, NNSA Senior Advisor for Tribal Affairs, attended to gain a better understanding of how PAS and SBA partner with small businesses and those that are Tribally Owned in the southwest area. Three Tribally Owned Contractors – KHA'P'O Construction Services Inc, Evergreen Contractors LLC, and Tsay Services Inc. – presented on their Design Construction capabilities.

Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Small Business Event
On November 20-21, Chelsea Murphy, NNSA Small Business Program Manager, participated in the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Small Business Event in New Orleans with over 3,000 attendees. NNSA participated along with the Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) Small Business Office and the DOE Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU). The NNSA Small Business Program engaged with all small businesses looking to do business with NNSA and also focused specifically on SB construction companies for the many FY25 capital projects across all NNSA sites.

Business Opportunities & Technical Conference
On October 29-31, Gary Lyttek, NNSA Senior Business Source Manager, participated in the “Small Business Thursday” panel with others from DOE/NNSA at the Business Opportunities & Technical Conference, hosted by the Energy, Technology & Environmental Business Association (ETEBA) in partnership with DOE-EM, in Knoxville, Tennessee. This annual event with over 750 attendees offers NNSA opportunities to meet one-on-one with small businesses and engage directly with small business vendors. Gary’s panel, which included Ron Pierce, Director, DOE OSDBU; Robert Meek, SBPM-DOE SR; Carol Jennings, SBPM-OREM; Diana Osbourne, SBPM UCOR; and Moderator Kenneth Johnson, SBPM, DOE-EM; discussed upcoming small business opportunities across the DOE complex, strategies on finding and bidding on Federal prime contracts and M&O Partner subcontracts. This event was a great success, and we look forward to participating next year!

2024 DOE Mentor-Protégé Program Forum
On August 21, Chelsea Murphy, NNSA Small Business Program Manager, spoke at the 2024 DOE Mentor-Protégé Program Forum “Empowering through Mentoring, Strengthening the Department of Energy’s Small Business Supply Chains” at the Albuquerque Marriott Pyramid with over 500 attendees.
