The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in collaboration with several partners, proposes to develop computational tools to evaluate accident tolerant fuel options for near term applications.  The key goal is to promote the development of advanced modeling tools capable of simulating the behavior of a fuel system at the core level needed to assess the time to melting of the fuel and corecomponents.  Experimental data, including ion irradiation, will be produced to fill data gaps and guide model development.
