The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide funding to Nuvista Light & Electric Cooperative (Nuvista) to install an ABB E-Mesh PowerStore battery energy storage system (BESS) module at an existing wind-diesel power plant in Kwethluk, AK. The BESS would have a power conversion capacity of 500 kW and an electrical energy storage capacity of 670 kWh. Once installed, the BESS would have the capacity to be repeatedly recharged using the power plant’s wind system and would provide increased grid stability to the community in Kwethluk by integrating variable wind into the grid for increased fuel displacement. The project would be completed over a single Budget Period.
