In October 2016, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) issued a notice of proposed rulemaking (NOPR) proposing a revised definition of General Service Lamp (GSL); announcing the availability of National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) data and supplemental data collected by DOE; requesting public comment on proposed definitions and compiled data; and requesting any additional data that stakeholders may have in support of the evaluation. DOE held a public meeting to take oral comment on October 21, 2016.
The final rule establishes a revised definition of GSLs to which existing and future energy conservation standards would apply.
