The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide federal funding to the University of Central Florida (UCF) to foster student competence and career interest in advanced engineering and professional skills that support a robust electrical utility sector.
The proposed project activities would include collaborative curriculum development, shared course offerings, research seminars, a summer training program, student research, and collaborative research aimed at developing widespread adoption of distributed renewable energy resources and deployment of smart grid technologies. UCF would work with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Los Alamos National Laboratory to accomplish project objectives. Proposed activities would be limited exclusively to intellectual, academic, or analytical activities. Project participants would use no physical materials beyond basic office supplies and software.
