The Advanced Photon Source (APS) is a major national user facility providing high-brilliance x-ray beams for users from Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), other national laboratories, academic institutions, governmental bodies, and industrial firms. Synchrotron radiation emitted by circulating electron beams is used as the source of x-rays for probing the structure of matter and for studying various physical and chemical processes. . The proposed action includes activities involved with removal of the existing storage ring and associated equipment followed by installation of the new storage ring and associated equipment.
