CX-016499: 242-16H Evaporator Acid Cleaning Process

This environmental evaluation checklist evaluates the chemical cleaning process to remove the scale deposits from the 242-16H (2H) evaporator pot using nitric acid and in-pot neutralization. The goal of the cleaning process is continued operation of the 2H Evaporator, thereby gaining tank space to store additional waste.  The chemical cleaning process is required every 2 to 2.5 years.  Major waste producing programs include the Defense Waste Processing Facility, whose recycle stream goes to the H-Area Tank Farm.
