The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) proposes to provide financial assistance to Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) for scientific research related to Dynamic Strength of Metals Under Extreme Conditions. The PI is Vikas Prakash. CWRU proposes to utilize a combination of normal plate impact shock-compression and combined pressure-and-shear plate impact experiments to better understand dynamic strength in metals at ultra-high strain rates and temperatures approaching melt.
