Savannah River National Laboratory will conduct a series of lab-scale experiments to determine the feasibility for using microwave-specific heating to achieve Pu metal dissolution inside of H-Canyon dissolvers. Titanium and cerium oxides will be used as surrogates for the Pu and will be dissolved in a strong nitric acid solution (9.78 M) with some (0.1 M HF) for this non-radioactive experiment.
