This Quick Hit research will examine the use of Diffusive Gradient in Thin films (DGT) to measure heavy metal concentrations in sediments and compare the results with several traditional methods and with effects on living organisms. The results of this research will provide ground work needed to assess the usefulness of passive samplers and can serve as the foundation for additional investigations. Positive results will provide a basis for integrating passive sampling technology into the SRS environmental monitoring program and help to establish the SRS as DOE leader in the adoption of new monitoring protocols.
