Date: 01/27/2014
Location(s): South Carolina
Offices(s): Savannah River Operations Office
The E&CPT Research Programs section will conduct vitrification studies in the Cold Cap Evaluation Furnace (CEF) located in the Engineering Development Laboratory (EDL). The feed material will be non-radioactive simulant of the Defense Waste Processing Facility (DWPF) process. Approximately 1,500 gallons of Sludge Receipt and Adjustment Tank (SRAT) simulant containing Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) metals will be procured from a vendor. Frit 418 will be added to the SRAT product after arrival at 786-A to provide feed for the melter. The melter testing will last approximately 20 days (continuous).
