The Department of Energy is proposing to provide $1,950,000 in State Energy Program funding at the State of Louisiana, who would transfer this funding to Known Geothermal Resource Area Energy to install a waste heat recovery project that harvests waste heat energy from the exhaust of existing boilers in operation at a linerboard and newsprint mill. The proposed project consists of retrofitting three existing boilers with heat exchangers and constructing an organic rankine cycle (ORC) unit for transferring the heat to energy. The project would be located at an existing linerboard and newsprint mill at 4200 Highway 190 West in DeRidder, Louisiana. No ground disturbance would occur as part of this project, as the heat exchangers would be installed in existing boiler stacks and the ORC unit would be set on a paved surface inside the mill. No wetlands, floodplains, or historic or cultural resources would be effected by this project.
