The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government would use $175,000 in Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant funds to purchase and install equipment associated with a bicycle sharing program throughout downtown Lexington. The proposed bicycle sharing program includes 9 bike stations and 50 bikes at specified locations. Stations would be placed at two major university campuses and several retail areas that are within a short bike-riding distance from downtown. Stations would also be placed along the Legacy Trail, a 9 mile bicycle and pedestrian trail that would connect downtown Lexington to the Kentucky Horse Park. The program includes funding for bike maintenance, centralized customer service and program insurance.
