This winter, the Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Laboratories and leaders were the recipients of twelve 2021 FLC National Awards. These honors, presented annually by the Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC), recognize the top federal labs across the country that demonstrate outstanding approaches to technology transfer and commercialization. Technology transfer is a vital component of the Department’s mission, shepherding promising research powered by DOE’s National Labs into the arms of America’s innovation community. Or as we like to say, turning research into reality! These awards reflect the talent, drive, and leadership that empowers our National Labs to redefine the possible every day.

This year’s DOE winners were recognized for their ground-breaking new ideas, including COVID-19 ventilator designs and advancements in lithium-ion batteries. National Energy Technology Laboratory’s (NETL) Director Dr. Brian J. Anderson took home the coveted Laboratory Director of the Year award, recognizing his immense contributions to the overall enhancement of technology transfer at NETL and across the DOE complex.

The FLC is comprised of federal laboratory technology transfer professionals from over 300 federal laboratories, facilities, and research centers. The organization works to promote and facilitate access to federal resources that guide laboratory technologies out of the labs and toward the marketplace.

Congratulations to all DOE winners!
