Note: Since the original recording, the deadline to apply for both Year 1 (FY22) and Year 2 (FY23) of funding has been extended to May 31, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. ET, for states and territories and August 31, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. ET, for Indian tribes including Alaska Native Corporations. Indian tribes, including Alaska Native Corporations, are now eligible to submit a single application as a Tribal Consortium. Additionally, a mail-in option is now available. Mail-in applications must be postmarked by the deadline.

On February 9, DOE’s Grid Deployment Office hosted a webinar specifically tailored for Tribal entities to learn about the Grid Resilience Formula Grant program.

Funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and administered through the Building a Better Grid Initiative, the Grid Resilience Formula Grants program is designed to strengthen and modernize America’s power grid against wildfires, extreme weather, and other natural disasters that are exacerbated by the climate crisis.

Tribes may use grant funding to implement a wide array of resilience measures, including equipment hardening or undergrounding, vegetation management, fire prevention systems, and advanced modeling technologies.

During the webinar applicants learned:

  • How much grant funding is available for Tribes over five years
  • How to apply for grant funds allocated to your Tribe
  • Types of eligible investments
  • Sub-granting and cost matching requirements

Through this non-competitive grant program, approximately $95 million is available to Tribal entities for Fiscal Year 2022 and an additional $86 million is available in Fiscal Year 2023. Tribes can see how much funding they are eligible for on the NETL website.
