U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm met today with H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, United Arab Emirates Special Envoy for Climate Change and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, to reinforce the strong energy and climate partnership between the United States and the UAE and to identify opportunities to advance the energy transition in the lead up to COP27 in Egypt and COP28 in the UAE. The Secretary and Minister agreed to work closely on investment in and deployment of clean energy technology in support of shared climate goals. The Secretary and Minister acknowledged the importance of near-term decarbonization of all energy sources, noting a desire to enhance energy security while also fulfilling the goals of the Paris Agreement. They agreed that renewable energy and civil nuclear technology will be critical in achieving an emissions-free future.
