The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Electricity (OE) today released a new report focusing on distribution transformers in the electrical power grid. The report, prepared for OE by researchers at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), looks at the number of U.S. distribution transformer units, the number and capacity of the assets, their units’ current age profile, and how demand for distribution transformers might increase in the coming years.

Submissions open for innovative solutions for less conventional use cases for the Energy Storage Innovations Prize Round 2.
Prize will help utilities advance electric grid reliability and resiliency through digital data.
Selected projects will help integrate renewable energy onto the grid and reach remote communities.

Selectees will focus on storage technology acceleration and community development.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Electricity announced the launch of the Community Microgrid Assistance Partnership (C-MAP). This initiative assists remote, rural, and electrically isolated communities in developing resilient microgrid systems.
Electricity Advisory Committee (EAC) 2024 Members Updated in January 2025.

The 2024 Electricity Advisory Committee is named.

One focuses on high-voltage direct current lines, the other addresses cascading grid failures

OE announced two advanced energy storage technology prizes: the Beyond the Meter Energy Storage Integration Prize to encourage innovation on the consumer’s side of the energy meter and a preview of the Energy Storage Innovations Prize Round 2.
