The US. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Secretarial Boards and Councils (AB) oversees the Department’s Federal Advisory Committee Management Program and administers the Secretary of Energy’s Advisory Board (SEAB)

The Office of Secretarial Boards and Councils monitors compliance with the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), a law that ensures committee work is conducted transparently, and defines the processes for establishing, operating, overseeing, and terminating committees. The director of AB is the DOE’s Committee Management Officer (CMO) which lends oversight to all the Department’s FACA related committees and equips the Designated Federal Officers (DFOs) of each committee with the tools necessary to carry out their duties.

AB administers the SEAB and ensures its compliance with FACA and Departmental advisory committee procedures.  The SEAB provides advice and recommendations to the Secretary of Energy on the Administration's energy policies, the Department's basic and applied research and development activities, economic and national security policy, and on any other activities and operations of DOE as the Secretary may direct. AB executes semi-annual SEAB public meetings, coordinates charter renewal and membership appointments, and provides administrative support to SEAB subcommittees.
