Powering the Blue Economy: Crosscutting Markets

Crosscutting research includes:

• Energy storage integration,
• Operational reliability,
• Deployment and maintenance strategies,
• Mooring designs, and more.

Crosscutting activities also include creating partnerships that benefit all Powering the Blue Economy (PBE) applications, like supporting the development of incubation and entrepreneurial programs that facilitate pathways to commercialization.

The PBE initiative funds crosscutting research and development to support small marine energy powered systems and to connect end users with technological solutions across the blue economy. These activities include:

• Identifying research and development needs through marine energy use case studies
• Enabling the adoption of marine energy technologies for large customer base and blue economy markets
• Establishing relationships to encourage entrepreneurial training and incubation of blue economy industries
• Forging partnerships with other agencies to enable the uptake of marine energy powered technologies
• Supporting foundational and innovative research applicable to multiple blue economy sectors.
