The Powering the Blue Economy (PBE) initiative works to protect, understand, and leverage the immense power and promise of the oceans. The initiative's projects aim to help the country achieve its collective economic, social, and environmental goals. Collaboration and engagement are central to supporting communities and marine life while providing power to the blue economy.
Download the Powering the Blue Economy brochure to learn more about energy innovation in the blue economy, energy resiliency for coastal and islanded communities, and the initiative’s overall progress.
This report launched the Powering the Blue Economy initiative in April 2019. Both the report and ongoing research incorporate feedback from blue economy stakeholders and identify potential opportunities and challenges for marine energy in different ocean applications. These findings highlight the compelling need for energy innovation in the blue economy and is critical role across scientific, economic, and security sectors.
The Water Power Technologies Office is also exploring partnerships between the marine renewable energy industry, coastal stakeholders, and blue economy sectors to address energy challenges that these groups face.
PRIMRE
The Portal and Repository for Information on Marine Renewable Energy, or PRIMRE, provides research, code, and data on:
- Engineering and technology,
- Resource characterization,
- Device performance, and
- Environmental effects of marine energy project's.
PRIMRE offers the marine energy community access to a wide array of information to build upon previous successes as well as the opportunity to innovate and advance the adoption of new technologies.
