Environmental Compliance

The Environmental Compliance (EC) is a main focus area of the Environmental Management System (EMS).

Mission

LM supports the following:

  • Comply with all applicable environmental laws and regulations and DOE requirements
  • Carry out all operations in a manner that protects the public and the environment
  • Prevent or reduce pollution at the source whenever feasible
  • Foster continuous improvement in environmental protection before incidents occur
  • Be responsible stewards of natural and cultural resources on DOE land
  • Adapt operations to increase resilience and minimize vulnerabilities to natural hazards

Scope

LM and the contractor evaluate, make recommendations, and implement approved programs with respect to environmental statutory requirements that include but are not limited to the following:

  • Clean Air Act
  • Clean Water Act
  • Cultural Resources Protection and Historic Preservation Act
  • Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA)
  • Endangered Species Act
  • National Invasive Species Act
  • Migratory Bird Treaty Act
  • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
  • Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA)
  • National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA)
     
Environmental compliance is fundamental to all LM work. LM and LMS must comply with relevant federal, state, tribal, and local environmental regulations related to activities such as well drilling, discharges to surface and groundwater, air emissions, etc
