The Advanced Manufacturing Office’s Better Plants Program will co-host the Department of Energy’s (DOE) 2018 Better Buildings Summit in Cleveland, Ohio from August 21-23, 2018. The Summit is one of the premier events for energy professionals to engage with one another, explore and share innovative strategies, emerging technologies, financing trends, and much more. This year, the Summit will be held in conjunction with DOE’s annual Energy Exchange and will focus on federal facility energy management. Combining the Summit with the Energy Exchange will provide greater access to technical discussions, trainings, panel sessions, and networking opportunities.
SUMMIT HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:
- Emerging and advanced technologies
- Contingency planning and effective implementation for energy resilience
- Smart building design and operation
- Barriers and opportunities for energy and water efficiency and employing renewable energy
- Energy Exchange Trade Show
- Peer-to-peer networking
- Courses offering Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits
- Discussions with DOE national laboratory experts and Better Buildings Financial Allies
- Local tours of high efficiency buildings and manufacturing plants
This year’s Summit will also include specific Industrial Sessions, featuring a dedicated manufacturing track, where attendees can explore the latest in energy management topics. In addition to a keynote from Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency Dr. Kathleen Hogan and a presentation from AMO Director Rob Ivester, this track will also include breakout meetings where attendees can hear program updates from various AMO projects such as Better Plants, ISO 50001, and Combined Heat and Power Technical Assistance Partnerships.

This year's Summit will also feature tours of the nearby manufacturing facilities of three Better Plants partners: ArcelorMittal, Ford Motor Company, and PPG. Participants will get a firsthand look at these partners' manufacturing processes and innovative energy efficiency practices.
