September 15, 2022On December 1, 2021, DOE issued a request for information (RFI) in the Federal Register on using consent-based siting to identify sites for interim storage of spent nuclear fuel. We asked the public for feedback on:
- the consent-based siting process itself
- removing barriers for meaningful participation, especially for groups and communities who have not historically been well-represented in these conversations
- the role of interim storage as a part of the nation’s waste management system

Summary and Analysis of Public Comments
We received 225 submissions in response to the RFI from a wide variety of commenters, including Tribal, State, and local governments; non-governmental organizations; members of academia and industry; other stakeholders; and individual commenters. Our team reviewed the comments, analyzing and summarizing the findings from the RFI into a report, which you can download below.
