Today, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of the Under Secretary for Infrastructure launched the Community Benefits Map for Demonstration and Deployment Projects, a new interactive tool that spotlights Investing in America agenda projects and provides a resource for Indian Tribes, communities and workers to use for identifying and interacting with these projects to foster engagement and long-term success. Mapped projects are being funded by President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act and will benefit communities across the U.S. The map identifies some key project-specific tactics for distributing community benefits, including community and workforce agreements, community engagement commitments, job training and other workforce benefits aimed at making clean energy careers high-quality and accessible.
“We know that engagement, transparency and commitments between and communities increase the long-term success of investments said Office of Infrastructure Principal Deputy Under Secretary for Infrastructure Dr. Kathleen Hogan. “That’s why the Biden-Harris Administration required Investing in America projects to include community benefits plans along with their applications for funding. This map is yet another resource to strengthen those lines of communication and collaboration.”
On Thursday, August 22, DOE’s Office of Infrastructure will co-host a webinar with the AFL-CIO, BlueGreen Alliance, Jobs to Move America, Emerald Cities Collaborative, and Workshop to highlight the map. The webinar will include speakers from DOE as well as community and labor partners and project developers from across the country.
Projects on the newly launched map represent a subset of the publicly announced Investing in America agenda selected and awarded projects. The information on the map reflects already released project information and not the current status of negotiations of specific terms and conditions of awards. Project information provided on the map is accurate as of the date of selection or award of that project, unless otherwise specified.
The map is limited to projects that:
- Are Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act demonstration or deployment projects or will inform future demonstration or deployment projects (like Front-End Engineering and Design studies);
- Have a specific location that is publicly available and identified at the county, city, or Tribal level; and
- Have provided community benefits plans with their funding applications. Data listed for projects based on publicly available information and is not comprehensive of all benefits for each project.
