The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Acting Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM), Dr. Jennifer Wilcox, will give a 10 minute presentation at the 12th Annual Clean Energy Ministerial Meeting, on June 1, from 10:50 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. (Central European Summer Time) / 4:50 a.m. to 6:20 a.m. (EDT). The annual conference, virtually hosted in Chile, runs from May 31 through June 6.

Representing DOE at CEM, Dr. Wilcox will discuss a variety of strategies that DOE and the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) are using for the carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) initiative. FECM intends to accelerate carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies and strongly supports this initiative to tackle the world’s most pressing challenge.

Dr. Wilcox will speak alongside Minister Bru of Norway. They will discuss accelerating CCUS as a viable CO₂ mitigation option and supply information about technologies, regulations and policies. They will also lead strategic partnerships to accelerate near and long-term investment in CCUS.

“The climate crisis is a global crisis, and a single nation cannot respond to it alone. It requires all of us to take the threat seriously and do what we need, to meet the challenge and address this crisis – not only in our own countries, but across the globe,” said Dr. Wilcox. “That means we have to cooperate and collaborate with each other to advance solutions – particularly technology solutions that will drive the critical energy transition needed to tackle the world’s gravest crisis and most pressing challenge. CCUS is indispensable to that effort.”
